Instructions For Patients After Booking.

Make sure you have obtained all the necessary information you need, visit our website dermawave.in or contact us on 9991221909 or Personally visit Dermawave Clinic for any clarification.
The following Blood Investigations need to be done before surgery: Hb%, BT, CT, PT-INR, RBS, LFT, HBsAg, HCV, HIV-ELISA 1 & 2 and ECG Chest in all leads: these are routine investigations which may be done in any laboratory. It can be done with us also. Show the results to doctor prior to the surgery.
You will have to sign a consent form before surgery.
If you need hotel accommodation, it can be arranged by our staff.
Any change in date, once booked, can be done only if informed well in advance. Last minute request for change of date may result in forfeiting the advance.

Pre-operative instructions

If you have dandruff, use Ketoconazole (Arcolane / Scalpe) or Betdine AD Shampoo daily for 3 days before surgery.
If you have any Medical Problems or on any medications, inform the doctor, don’t take any drugs before surgery without informing the doctor.
Relax, avoid exertion the day before surgery.
Take easily digestible food: Dal, Rice, Roti, Sambar and vegetables,avoid spicy food.
Avoid smoking/Alcohol, for a week before surgery
Take a good night sleep:

On the day of surgery:

Reach the centre by the time informed to you, don’t be late.
IMPORTANT: Do not come on empty stomach. Come on a full stomach. Have lunch/breakfast depending on the time of arrival.
Wear comfortable loose fitting pant and shirt with buttons, don’t wear T-shirt.
Don’t bring any valuable things in your bags/ shirt to the clinic, though you will be provided locker to keep valuables.
You may bring any I-Pod or Mobile Phone of your choice to watch during the surgery.
Surgery will take about 5-10 hours.
You may travel back in auto/car/taxi but not on two wheeler, preferably you cannot drive after surgery when you go back to home, nor can sit on pillon, if you wish to go by city taxi, ask at Dermawave front office.

After going back

Please note that hair transplantation is a very predictable surgery, all postoperative events are already informed to you, so there is no need for any worry.

Have light food, Rice, Dal, Chapatti, and Non-spicy food. Don’t drink alcohol or smoke.
Take medicines as per the prescription. All medications to be taken after food as prescribed. Remember pain killer is there in your medications, you can have it if you feel pain at night.
You may watch TV/Listen to music.
Avoid exertion.
Avoid Jerky movements of head.
Be cautious while going inside/ coming out of car, please mend your head.
Use soft pillows. You may lay on the back of head.

You may go to office if you feel like, avoid exertion. We have put bandage on your forehead to prevent swelling coming down on forehead & around. This should be in place for 5 days. You may come to change donor area soaked dressing the very next day, if you can, or you can remove bandage dressing after 5 days.

Care of recipient area before removal of bandage: Note that hydration is very important for grafts, So wet the hair(grafts) in recipient area either by Ringer Lactate(RL)/ Normal Saline(NS) solution spray. Do wetting as often as you can (2-6 times) for the first 4 days. Don’t disturb the grafts by rubbing / combing.

Postoperative swelling:

This may appear in 5% of patients on the fore head which may come down to eyelids on day 3/4. If so, dont worry, it will disappear in 2 to 3 day. Apply ice cubes as follows.

Take ice cubes in gloves and do icing on forehead & swollen area around eyes.
Keep the ice pack on the swollen area for 2-3 minutes for 4-5 times a day.
You have been put a bandage on forehead. This is to prevent swelling. Let it remain at least for 5 days.

Postoperative Wash/Care:

After 7 days you may wash your hair with mild shampoo (Baby Johnson). You may apply moisturising cream at least 20 to 30 minutes on the recipient and donor area, wet it, with water in between then wash with gentle rubbing using baby johnson shampoo & water. Applying of moisturising cream helps in easy removal of scab/crust. Sometimes, you may see whitish material sticking on to roots, don’t worry about it. You may see slight hair growth at this stage. Hairs may start falling by 2 weeks. Shedding phase starts after 10 days of hair transplant surgery & continue up to six weeks thereafter. During shedding phase, Don’t panic, the roots are firmly in place. They will start growing by 3-4 month, you will see full results in 9 months. Apply Minoxidil solution (5%) 1ml twice a day and take tablet Finpecia (1mg) once a day after 1 week for one year. Minoxidil may cause some dryness/dandruff, use a conditioner (Triflow or pantene) or ketoconazole solution to wash scalp once weekly.

NOTE: Some patients are too anxious to clean grafts, so they may see grafts with brown material sticking to skin, this only needs proper cleaning. Note that after 7 days, gentle rubbing is allowed. In some patients you may have alopecia patches in donor as well as in surrounding donor area, don’t worry, these are due to temporary telogen effluvium (Shock loss). These alopecia patches will be recovered within 3 to 4 month.
